Latest quarter is advance estimate

GDP measures the total value of goods and services produced in the US economy. BEA releases three estimates per quarter — advance, second, and third — each incorporating more complete data. The component mix and revision pattern reveal where growth is actually coming from.

Methodology & Sources

Source: Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), National Income and Product Accounts (NIPA).

Tables: T10101 (real GDP percent change), T10102 (contributions), T10105 (nominal levels), T10106 (real levels), GDPByIndustry Table 9 (industry growth).

Revision tracking: BEA releases three estimates per quarter: advance (~30 days after quarter end), second (~60 days), third (~90 days). Subsequent annual and comprehensive revisions may also occur.

Notes: All growth rates are annualized quarter-over-quarter, seasonally adjusted. Real GDP uses chained 2017 dollars. Net exports and inventory changes are shown as percentage-point contributions rather than percent changes (since they can cross zero).
